A tribute to the Queen
Across the country, every week, without exception, we say the Prayer for the Royal Family in our shuls. Since 1952 when Her Majesty the Queen ascended to the throne, there have been about a dozen versions of the Prayer for the Royal Family to reflect changes to the royal family: marriages and, sadly, deaths, as with the recent passing of Prince Philip. The one constant in the prayer throughout the last seventy years has been “Our Sovereign Lady, Queen Elizabeth”. Long may she reign over us.
Click here to watch our short tribute to the Queen featuring the Chief Rabbi, Rabbi Joseph Dweck and Sinai Jewish Primary School. Mazal tov, Your Majesty.
Dayan Binstock has also compiled a publication which presents the different forms of the Prayer for the Queen that have been used over the past 70 years, culminating in the special prayer of the Chief Rabbi for the Jubilee. You can download it by clicking here.
