We hope you had a meaningful Yom Kippur and fasted well. Many people have the custom to start building their succah straight after the Fast to show how excited we are to go from one mitzvah to the next.
With this in mind, led by Hampstead Synagogue and together with our friends at the Commonwealth Jewish Council, we’re excited to announce that over Succot we’ll be bringing you The World’s Biggest Succah Hop 2, a global community event for the whole family! Last year thousands of you tuned in as we visited different succot around the globe. This year we’re heading to six continents as we introduce you to communities in eleven different countries, including Jamaica, Kenya, Tanzania and Argentina to see how Jewish communities there celebrate Succot. Join us on Sunday 26 September at 5pm on TheUS.tv.
Chesed Food Parcel Service
Since the start of the pandemic, the US Chesed Department has been supporting members in need of help with their food, whether that is because they cannot afford to shop or ill-health means they struggle to cook for themselves. The weekly parcels include a variety of fresh and non-perishable foods, some cooked food and some toiletries and cleaning products. We help more than 100 families every week. If you need support, or know a US member who does, please contact your local shul's care co-ordinator or Hannah Skolnick in the US Chesed team at hannahskolnick@theus.org.uk. The last 18 months have shown us how important it is to care for others – be they family, friends or strangers in need. We’ve seen how even small acts can make such a difference. For this year, 5782 Hopefully all of you Baruch Hashem have by now, been Written into the Sefer HaChaim What we’ve all sought - “The Book of Life” Sadly, this wasn’t to be the case for my wife
Many others lost a loved one Sometime last year in 5781 But as we endeavour to move forward with our lives Their contribution to Life will always be recognised
Now that Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur are behind us We can prepare for celebrating some of the more joyous Of our many Jewish festivals That our rich history recalls
Part of what we know as the, “High Holy Days.” In which much food and drink, surely plays A big part as we are accustomed to As in all of our other festivals they do
They are Succoth and Simchat Torah – “bring them on” Chagim with serious messages, but also good fun While for now I wish a Shabbat Shalom to everyone This email was sent with love from the United Synagogue. If you no longer wish to receive this email, please unsubscribe here |
