Earlier this week, we visited two of Tribe’s Summer Camps – Camp Zev for Year 6 and Camp Barak & Sufa for Years 7 & 8.
We started at Camp Zev, which has over 90 participants this year and is taking place in the picturesque Alton Castle. We spoke to the campers about the activities they’ve been up to, which included a murder mystery, scavenger hunt, Colour War, Dragon’s Den, IDF boot camp, inspirational Shabbat and Tisha B’Av experiences, and plenty more.
Jessica Harris from Camp Zev said: “It’s really fun here – we’re doing lots of fun activities and the staff are super helpful.”
Toby Nagus, joint Rosh (Head) of Camp Zev, said: “Post-Covid it’s great to have loads of kids back on camp having an amazing Jewish summer experience run by volunteer leaders, who are developing their own skills as well as ensuring the kids have the most incredible summer of their lives.”
Sadie Blakely, a Madricha on Camp Zev, said: “Tribe Summer Camp gives children the incredible opportunity to connect and celebrate Judaism in a fun way, meet new people and just have a great time. The ruach is through the roof!”
The Madrichim (leaders) on this year’s Tribe Camps were able to participate in a residential pre-camp for the first time since before the pandemic.
We then moved on to Camp Barak & Sufa in Chase Grammar School, where 130 participants have been having an amazing summer. Camp activities have included Colour War, a trip to Alton Towers, an escape room, inflatables, Dragon’s Den, Jewish values education, and more. Three campers shared their thoughts on their Tribe summer experience…
Sadie Kark said: “Tribe is full of ruach and care – it is one big family.”
Sophie Permutt said: “Tribe is a place where you can connect with all of your friends and have lots of fun.
Ella Wagner said: “Tribe is one big family where you can do things you can’t normally do, and experience new relationships with people.”
We also spoke with Jonah Weiniger, Sgan (Deputy Head) of Camp Barak & Sufa, who said: “It’s been amazing and everyone is having the best time. It’s so important to have everyone making summer camp a big part of their summers, and we are so happy to be able to facilitate that.”
