There is a longstanding custom for a Jewish cemetery to contain a Holocaust memorial. Following the burial of the six Kedoshim (Holocaust victims) at
Bushey New Cemetery in January 2019, the United Synagogue is building a Holocaust memorial with the grave of the Kedoshim at its centre.
Today we are inviting the community to a consecration service on Sunday 23rd April, 2023 at 3pm to mark the opening of the Holocaust Memorial and Garden at Bushey New Cemetery by the Chief Rabbi.
The service will include the unveiling of the Matzeiva (tombstone) for the Holocaust victims the United Synagogue buried in Bushey New Cemetery in January 2019.
Thanks to a very generous legacy donation by Holocaust survivor Sam Freiman and his wife Sonja, the United Synagogue has been able to build this permanent Holocaust Memorial at Bushey New Cemetery with a garden to provide a place to mourn and contemplate. Sam and Sonja were members of the 45 Aid Society and Richmond United Synagogue.
Parking will be available in both the Bushey Old and Bushey New car parks. Reservation is helpful but not essential via memorial@theus.org.uk

United!
We are delighted to tell you that next week US members will receive a copy of United, our stunning new 84-page magazine. We have a remarkably candid interview with the Chief Rabbi, who reflects on key moments in his life, including his time in Israel after the Yom Kippur War. We've put together 75 places to visit on your next trip to Israel. We also go behind the scenes at the famous Rakusen’s factory, home to the red boxes of matzah that have become a staple of Pesach for so many of us. And there’s a Tribe Special in the middle of the magazine aimed at our younger members – feel free to pull it out and give it to them! We can't wait to hear what you think of it.
