We were heartbroken to hear about the murders of Rebbetzen Lucy Dee zt”l and her daughters Maia and Rina Dee zt”l, in a terrorist attack. We send our deepest condolences and wishes of nechama to Rabbi Leo, his children and the entire Dee and Shaw families, especially Lucy’s parents and siblings who have been sitting shiva.
This tragedy was particularly poignant for the United Synagogue family as Rabbi and Rebbetzen Dee had previously served as Assistant Rabbi & Rebbetzen of Hendon United Synagogue and Senior Rabbi & Rebbetzen of Radlett United Synagogue. We wish the family chayim aruchim (long life).
A group of United Synagogue rabbis (Dayan Binstock, Rabbi Hackenbroch, Rabbi Hughes, and Rabbi Ginsbury) travelled to Israel last week to attend the shiva.
Click here to read statements by the Chief Rabbi and Rabbi Ginsbury, Rabbi of Hendon United Synagogue. Rabbi Ginsbury has also written a moving article in Mishpacha Magazine which you can read here.
Rabbi Hughes, Rabbi of Radlett United Synagogue, wrote an article in the Jewish Chronicle which you can read here, and also spoke on BBC Radio 4, which you can listen to by clicking here (from 16 minutes in). Rebbetzen Chana Hughes also wrote an article in the Jewish Chronicle which you can read here.
You can read Rebbetzen Lucy's piece in Sefer Hashiva, titled 'Living our Judaism', by clicking here (page 205).
May the memories of Lucy, Maia and Rina be for a blessing.
We also send our deepest condolences to the family of Alessandro Parini, who was killed in the recent terrorist attack in Tel Aviv. May his memory be for a blessing.
In the week ahead, we with sadness commemorate Yom Hazikaron, before celebrating the 75th Yom Ha'atzmaut. Please see further details below of community events and information about these days.

Yom Ha’atzmaut 75 is a call for Jewish unity. Find out why in this week's D'var Torah by the Chief Rabbi. To read a transcript of this and all of the Chief Rabbi's Divrei Torah, click here.
Cranbrook United's Rabbi Steven Dansky continues his journey through the Book of Shemot with his new English translation. Click here to read his blog.
Tzipi Hotovely, Ambassador of Israel, has written a piece for Yom Ha'atzmaut in Daf Hashavua, which you can read here.
Following Rebbetzen Nechama Davis' piece in this week's Daf Hashavua, Rabbi Baruch Davis has written the following:
So much has changed since Nechama wrote this week's Daf Hashavua article, reflecting on our Aliyah and on living in Efrat, with the brutal murder of our dear friend Lucy Dee and her two beautiful daughters, Maya and Lucy Hy"d.
The community has become transformed from a pleasant and friendly place to an intensely bonded one, with public shiurim every night of the shiva, responding to the strong need for strengthening and support. The level of chesed has been moving beyond words, not only to the Dee family but to every resident of our neighbourhood. Rabbi Dee has led us all, showing us, and the whole world, what a man of faith and a man of halacha looks like in times of enormous personal sorrow.
Most of all, we now feel more privileged than ever to live in Eretz Yisrael and to be part of the Efrat community, which is growing in every sense of the word.
