Today we are very excited to launch our ambitious advanced Torah programme for women. It's called Ma'aleh and has been designed by the Chief Rabbi.
The two-year programme will begin in October and will cater for women looking to learn Torah at an advanced level, with the outstanding educators, Rabbanit Shani Taragin, Rebbetzen and Yoetzet Halacha Lauren Levin, and Rabbanit and Yoetzet Halacha Rachel Weinstein.
The programme will give participants the opportunity to learn Tanach (the Hebrew Bible), halacha (Jewish law), gemara (the Talmud) and Jewish thought in depth, acquiring a solid grounding in all of these areas. In addition, the programme will include high-level leadership and pedagogic training. Through guided weekly study and Torah classes, participants will hone their learning and teaching methods.
Our vision is to enable more women become leaders in and beyond our communities and Ma'aleh will, please God, help us deliver this. There is a thirst for high-level Torah teaching and learning in the UK and we are delighted to be able to respond to this demand with the launch of this programme, along with our partners LSJS, Matan and Mizrachi.
This programme is open to applications from any woman who would like to study Torah at a high level. Click here for more details and to apply.

Sad news
We are saddened by the recent deaths of two former United Synagogue rabbis. Rabbi Philip Ginsbury z'l passed away last week. He was the rabbi of a number of United Synagogue communities, including Streatham Synagogue from 1959 to 1966, Brixton Synagogue from 1966 to 1981 and the merged South London Synagogue from 1981 to 2007. We wish chayim aruchim to his family and in particular to our colleague and friend Rabbi Mordechai Ginsbury, the longstanding rabbi of Hendon United Synagogue.
We are also saddened by the passing of Rabbi Shlomo Cutler z'l this week. Rabbi Cutler was Mill Hill United Synagogue's first full time minister where he served for more than three decades until his retirement in 1993. In 1971 he oversaw the building of the synagogue which still stands on the same site in Station Road and the subsequent growth of the Mill Hill community. We wish chayim aruchim to Rabbi Cutler's family.
